We started as Staffordshire Buddies on the 1st December 1993 (World Aids Day) to support people living with HIV.
As we evolved, Staffordshire Buddies diversified to support people with other sexual wellbeing issues and, in 2020, we changed our name to SSHC to encompass additional areas of work, including working with the LGBTQ+ community.
We have developed three brands for our services under the umbrella of SSHC:
- HIV – Staffordshire Buddies.
- Relationships & Sexual Wellbeing – Sexual Wellbeing Hub.
- Sexuality and Gender – Kaleidoscope.
For Staffordshire to be a place where people can live without fear of judgement regarding their sexuality, gender, HIV status and sexual wellbeing, because they are understood, heard and empowered to express themselves authentically.
To provide support, advice, education to everyone around sexuality, gender, HIV and sexual wellbeing within Staffordshire, to enable a greater undertanding and acceptance of everyone’s differences.
Our values impact all aspects of our charity, from our trustees, staff, volunteers to our client delivery. Our client-centred approach allows us to continue to evolve our service offerings and respond to the needs of our community.
We believe in the power of education to promote understanding, empathy, and acceptance, and we aim to provide information, education and resources to everyone within Staffordshire.
We recognize that we cannot achieve our goals alone and seek to collaborate with other organizations and stakeholders to create a more just and equitable county for all.
We believe in empowering individuals to live their lives authentically and with dignity, providing them with the tools and resources to achieve their full potential.
We approach our work with compassion and empathy, recognizing the unique challenges and experiences faced by many of our clients, and we strive to support them with kindness and understanding.
We celebrate beauty in diversity, and we offer a welcoming environment where people can be free to be themselves, without fear of judgement.
We advocate for the rights of our clients within Stafforshire, and work to raise awareness about the issues they face and promote positive change.
We hold ourselves accountable to our members, donors, and the wider community, ensuring that our actions are transparent, responsible, and aligned with our values.
